An adviser in the spotlight – Frankie Sutton

At Foster Denovo, we have lots of great advisers with a wealth of knowledge and experience in financial services. To help you get to know them better, we are delving into their roles at Foster Denovo, their day to day lives, as well as finding out more about them personally.

In this month’s ‘Adviser in the spotlight’ we speak with Frankie Sutton, who joined the company just over a year ago, about his role at Foster Denovo, what led him into a career in financial services and what he enjoys doing in his spare time.

Hi Frankie, tell us about your role at Foster Denovo?

I’m a financial adviser, so I give people holistic financial advice and aim to help my clients meet their financial objectives. I work mainly advising clients on pensions and retirement planning and investments, as well as protection planning. I also deal with corporate investments and protection.

What qualifications do you have?

I have a Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning through the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

What is your favourite thing about your job?

Helping people. I genuinely really love helping people. I enjoy talking to clients, meeting them, understanding them, getting to know them and then subsequently trying to help them with their financial needs.

What would you say led you to a career in financial services?

My background is in accountancy. After completing my A Levels, I went on to complete an apprenticeship at an accountancy firm. I had a client facing role there, but I was helping more on the business advice side of things, and I realised I wanted more out of my career. I wanted to do less of the general admin involved in accountancy and to make a difference and help people more with their personal finances. My background in accountancy gave me a good level of knowledge, especially on the taxation side of things. So, it intertwines quite nicely.

What would you want potential clients to know?

That I’ll always make time for my clients. A trait of my job is to listen and there’s no such thing as a silly question. I always say to my clients to simply get in touch with me, I’m only at the end of a phone – just to use me at their will really, is the best way I could say it.

What is your definition of success?

Happy clients. If you have happy clients, you know you’re doing your job right.

How do you prefer to start your working day?

Definitely with coffee!

How do you like to spend a day off?

I enjoy spending my time off with those who are valuable to me. I play a lot of sports. I play cricket and football competitively and then I also play a lot of golf. I’ve also got my dog, Chewie – although he’s not really a day off as he sits on my lap all day and constantly craves attention! And then when I get the chance to have more time off, I love holidays and travelling.

Do you have anywhere on your must visit list?

I would really like to go to Hawaii! I love the Polynesian vibes, the laid back island approach, the music, the beaches and obviously the sun!

If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose?

It would be interesting to be the President of the United States for a day, just to see how the dynamic of that day works. It would be interesting, and you’d get to go on Air Force One, which would be cool.

What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?

I’m quite a movie geek, so I like to relax and watch a movie. Taking the dog for a walk to clear my head is always nice and then spending time with my fiancée, Molly. I also enjoy good food and a glass of wine. You can’t really beat that after a long day!

Thanks, Frankie.
