An adviser in the spotlight – Hendrik Olivier

At Foster Denovo, our clients are at the heart of everything we do. We know that the services we provide can help define your future, that’s why we are passionate about providing you with the best possible experience.

Each of the services our advisers provide are different. Our advisers all have unique qualities and ways of working but all have their clients’ best interests at heart.

Every month, we are delving into the life of an adviser to find out more about their day-to-day work, as well as more about them personally. This month, we spoke to Hendrik Olivier.

Hi Hendrik, what do you do at Foster Denovo?

I am a self-employed Financial Adviser and Mortgage Adviser. I specialise in buy-to-let mortgages but I cover most areas of financial planning including equity release products.

What qualifications do you have?

I have DipFA (Level 4), CeMAP (mortgages and protection) and CeRER (equity release).

What would you say is your favourite thing about being a financial adviser?

I love helping people.  I see myself as a coach as well as an adviser and get great satisfaction from helping people achieve their goals and ambitions.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had, and what did you learn from it?

When I started my career in IT as a young man, I worked in Sir Alan Sugar’s computer factory on the production line.  I quickly learned that I needed to get a qualification and start working for myself!

2020 wasn’t the year we all expected, but what is one of your favorite memories from the past year?

Being lucky enough to have had three weeks of summer holiday abroad in the sunshine with my family after lockdown 1 ended. Especially as we only officially knew that we could go four days before departure!

What’s one thing you’re learning now, and why is it important?

I’m in the process of getting my estate planning license as I believe it’s really important to help my clients to protect their wealth for future generations. I am also always trying to improve efficiency and making better use of my time in order to be more productive.

What would be the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery?

Well, that would very much depend on the size of the win, but I would probably invest before I start spending.

That’s very sensible! Thanks Hendrik.
