Foster Denovo’s Sally takes world title for GB!

Sally Read-Cayton was undertaking flexible working with her employer Foster Denovo to enable her to represent Britain in the IAAF world championships in Beijing, where she won her 400m Masters race!

The over-50 masters races were by invitation to the fastest age-group runners in the world at the women’s 400m and men’s 800m, and Sally Read-Cayton won a perfect tactical race to win the 400m in 60.05, her fastest time for five years.  Despite reaching the age of 50 in April, Sally overhauled New Zealand’s world masters champion Liz Wilson around the 300m mark.

Sally works hard to fit her tough training schedule in around raising her three children, the youngest of whom is 12, and also around her role as a financial advisor at the company Foster Denovo. “I love my job, and working with a range of clients and supporting them with the financial planning decisions. It can be very demanding, but it is very rewarding. My employer – Foster Denovo – is providing sponsorship to help me cover the travel costs to Beijing in August. They have allowed me to work flexibly around both my training and my family. This is a tremendous help and enables me to focus and achieve a great deal in my day – employers like this are not so easy to come by,” Sally explains.

Sally’s training is spread across six days, adding up to eight to ten hours, however she does take Fridays off to rest and recover. She said: “It isn’t easy, and there have been many times I have considered missing a training session and having a gin and tonic instead, but the support of my family and Foster Denovo has spurred me on. This is something I have always wanted to achieve, and – finally – I am getting my chance. Roll on Beijing…”
