My profile

I have over 30 years’ experience helping people set and achieve their financial goals. In today’s complicated and changing financial markets, more than ever, I believe people value experience particularly highly.

I want to help my clients develop a sense of financial wellbeing. I aim to understand my clients’ needs and wants so I can focus on what’s really important to them and provide tailored advice in a clear and uncomplicated way. This clarity helps my clients to have a greater understanding and peace of mind when it comes to their finances.

My ethos is to:

  • understand clients’ unique needs and always have their best interests at heart;
  • provide advice in a professional and timely way;
  • explain everything clearly, simply and jargon free; and
  • keep my clients on track to achieve their financial goals by providing ongoing advice and taking into account any changes in personal circumstances, tax, legislation or the market.

The value of your investments can go down as well as up and you may not get back the amount you put in. The Financial Conduct Authority does not regulate taxation advice, school fees planning and some aspects of Buy-to-let mortgages. Home reversion plans and lifetime mortgages are complex products. To understand the features and risks, ask for a personalised illustration. Your home or property may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgages.

I understand that financial products can be complicated and there are lots of options when it comes to managing your finances. As well as this, your personal situation and other elements outside of your control can change, so it’s easy to end up with a collection of policies that may no longer be right for you. This could mean you are paying for things you don’t need and your financial arrangements are more complicated than they need to be.

I aim to explain everything in a clear and simple way and help create a straightforward financial plan which, with regular reviews, will put you in the best place to achieve your financial goals.

We are all different and our circumstances are unique but, essentially, I believe there are three cornerstones to financial wellbeing which most of us strive to achieve.

  • To make sure we have funds available for short-term emergencies such as loss of income or unexpected bills, and medium-term costs or life events such as school/university fees and weddings.
  •  To have enough money to live the lifestyle we want during retirement.
  • To have comfort in the knowledge that we, and our families, are protected from all the risks we are exposed to so that in the event of illness or death our debts can be repaid and our families are financially secure.

Of course, when we are considering solutions for these cornerstones it’s also important that:

  • they are cost effective;
  • you are paying as little tax as possible; and
  • your money is invested in a way that is appropriate to your attitude to investment risk and your timescales.

I entered the financial services industry in 1985 and have been based in and around London since 1987. During this time I have been giving pragmatic advice to, and working with, clients with the aim of making sure they and their families can have a secure financial future.

I am a founder Partner of Foster Denovo and before November 2005 (when the company commenced trading) had been with its forerunner, Capital Planning UK Ltd, since 2002.

IFS School of Finance:
DipFA (Diploma for Financial Advisers)

Savings and investments:
Whether you have something specific to fund for or you simply want to make your money work harder, I can work with you to help you achieve your medium and long-term financial goals.

I will take the time to understand your attitude to risk, your investment experience and your desired timescales so that your money is invested in a way that aims to meet your needs.

Planning for retirement:
To be able to live the lifestyle you want in retirement, it’s essential that you have a plan in place. This plan will consider all other aspects of your financial situation as well as pensions and I will regularly review and update it to make sure your retirement plans are on track.

When it comes to retiring and taking your pension, you now have more options than ever on how to access your pension funds. I understand that these options can be complicated and I will explain your choices to you in a clear way. I will look at all other aspects of your financial arrangements as well and give you advice on the best way to fund your retirement.

Estate planning:
I will help you manage your money so that you can pass on what you want, when you want, to who you want. I understand that families can be complex and I will consider your personal circumstances to help make sure you minimise your inheritance tax liability and protect your children and grandchildren.

Protection:
Sometimes we can be faced with the unexpected, such as a serious illness or even death. It’s important to have plans in place so that, if the worst were to happen, you have peace of mind that your finances are protected and you and your family are financially secure.

Equity release:
I work closely with colleagues who can provide advice on residential or buy-to-let mortgages, but I specialise in equity release.

Raising capital from your home (known as equity release) can provide a solution for some circumstances such as: boosting your retirement income; paying for care home fees; or making improvements to your home.

Equity release is not right for everyone, but I will make sure you understand the potential advantages, disadvantage and possibilities of taking out equity release. Taking into account a number of factors, I will advise on whether it is right for you.

When you work with me you can expect clarity in the advice you receive.

I will always focus on you and understanding your needs and what is important to you in life. I know that people’s aims and objectives are very unique and therefore your financial plan, and the products and solutions that sit inside your plan, must reflect your personal circumstances.

Many of my clients have been recommended to me by friends, colleagues and family and I believe that’s because I put my clients’ needs and wants at the heart of everything I do.

I am supported by Dimitri Tsendis, Client Relationship Manager. Dimitri is professional, dedicated and consistently delivers a first class client experience. He has over 14 years of experience within the financial institution industry, having worked at Halifax, before joining Foster Denovo.

Dimitri has worked with me for the past 6 years. He supports me with managing client queries, product research, processing clients’ needs, pushing along your requests with lenders and suppliers and much more.

Outside of work, Dimitri enjoys watching football (a Chelsea supporter), holidaying and spending time with his family and friends. He lives in North London with his wife and daughter.

Sue S – Managing Partner – Public Relations

“Dennis Wheway has advised me for over 10 years – both at Foster Denovo and before that, on property, pension and investment issues. He is without doubt, the most well informed and trustworthy financial adviser I have worked with and his pragmatic, professional guidance is second to none. If that wasn’t enough, meetings with Dennis are fun too. Not part of the service with most IFAs.”

Ashleigh V – Design Manager – Retail

“Dennis has been looking after my financial affairs for around 8 years now and has a way of explaining things which makes the complex seem straightforward. He is professional and diligent whilst being friendly and approachable. I always feel he is focused on me and my concerns and there is never any “hard sell”. I have recommended his services to many friends and colleagues over the years and will continue to do so.”

Andrew H – Sales Manager – Training

“I was introduced to Dennis through a mutual friend in April 2009. Dennis’s approach is very methodical and consulting; he asks plenty of questions and gains as much knowledge as possible about his clients before making any recommendations. Once his recommendations are given he then takes a great deal of care to ensure everything is clear before decisions are taken. It’s important for Dennis to know the decisions we make as clients are informed ones. I have had advice on my pension and my life assurance through Dennis and have no hesitation is recommending him.”

Raj S – Managing Partner – Accountancy

“I have been dealing with Dennis for over 20 years now in relation to a number of my clients and my own affairs. I would recommend Dennis without any hesitation as he provides excellent and honest advice. His aim is to always provide best advice and to look after you on a longer term basis, unlike a lot of others in the profession.”

Monia Z – Software Quality Manager – Telecoms

“I first met Dennis six years ago and I was most impressed by his personal and amicable attitude. He can strip the jargon from the language and get down to the details of what the different options and propositions mean for one’s circumstances. I felt confident that the products suggested not only met my financial needs but were also suitable to my attitude to risk and personal approach to investment. Dennis provided us with a great service, listening to our concerns and plans. I particularly like the fact that, in addition to face to face meetings, Dennis is always available for a quick phone call or an email exchange, answering questions, giving feedback and providing suggestions. My experience is working with Dennis has been absolutely positive, I have recommended him to my friends.”

Lara A – Managing Director – Management Consultancy

“I’ve known Dennis Wheway for 3 years and in that time have found his advice to be delivered in a very professional and customer focused way. He takes the time to understand my needs and works with me when I’m not clear on what exactly I am seeking. I have engaged his services for critical illness insurance and life insurance and have been very pleased with the options he presented and the advice provided. I would now naturally go to him if I require any financial advice or direction and he is always happy to help without the hard sell.”

Alan L – Chief Executive – Professional Trade Body

“Dennis helped me back in early 2001 and I’ve been able to rely on him ever since to come up with timely, well-informed and sensible advice. He brings great energy and enthusiasm to his job, so he gets things done and clearly has the right sort of relationship with the myriad of providers in the marketplace. When he rings or e-mails I know that it will be for a good reason.”

Fiona P – Director – Training & Communications

“Dennis has been supporting us with our financial decisions for ten years. He has arranged mortgages and pensions and has an extraordinary facility to explain complex things in a clear and simple way. He is extremely efficient and always well prepared for meetings. We have always had the sense that he is looking after our interests and identifying the best opportunities. He makes no judgements about poor financial decisions we may have made in the past and, best of all, he has a great sense of humour.”

Nick B – Managing Director – Marketing

“Dennis has been assisting me with my financial affairs for some 15 years now. I recently approached Dennis to set up a SIPP for my wife and myself. His friendly, positive approach makes him a pleasure to deal with, but most importantly he clearly explains what options are available and goes to great lengths to ensure that he understands exactly what our needs are. In particular, I found it helpful having someone who would quickly respond to obscure questions that crop up in a professional manner. I would have no hesitation in recommending him.”
