My profile

I have 35 years of experience in financial services. My view is that my job as a financial planner has a lot in common with a financial ‘coach’ – preparing my clients for the rigours of financial management!

Over the years I’ve realised that even small tweaks to an individual’s financial planning can ultimately reap dividends. I take pride in watching my clients’ financial planning to develop and prosper. For me, this is personal. I would want the same for my clients that I would want for myself.

As a result of this, many of my clients are now good friends. We have built long-lasting relationships as I believe the advice process should be enjoyable and allow clients to easily understand and process the advice.

The value of your investment can go down as well as up and you may not get back the full amount invested

The Financial Conduct Authority does not regulate taxation and trust advice.

My first conversation with a potential client tends to be a telephone or face to face conversation. This allows me to discover what really makes a difference in my client’s lives and get to know the client well. The information I gather forms the template for the advice I give.

I aim to coach my clients to meet their lifestyle objectives and better their financial wellbeing, whilst also developing their understanding of their finances and how different products can help them reach their goals. For this reason, I use cash flow modelling tools and short informative videos to further help them to understand, empowering my clients to support the generations which follow them.

I periodically review a client’s Masterplan and ensure that it continues to meet their needs and is in line with their financial aspirations. This is important as circumstances and family needs may change.

The financial industry can be difficult to understand. For my clients, I avoid jargon and remove the unnecessary terms which may make it difficult to understand. I am always adding value to the service and advice I offer my clients, I operate like a financial social worker, aiming to guide my clients and improve their financial wellbeing.

Diploma in Financial Advice – Level 4

I started in financial services 35 years ago, in that time I have worked with a truly magnificent group of men and women who are at the leading edge of financial planning in the UK.

I’m also a Trustee and Deputy Chairman of the blood cancer charity MDS UK. I was motivated to become involved in the charity due to their invaluable assistance during my period of ill-health which subsequently required me to endure three bone marrow transplants.

I’m married, to Susan, and we have a son and daughter – our daughter lives and works in Australia in the financial services industry, whilst our son is currently studying to become a Doctor. I’m not the slimmest of individuals so I’m regularly out pounding the streets training for several long-distance events including half marathons and marathons. I’ll never win any medals but I have a reputation for persevering!

In a previous life, I’ve worked on oil rigs and a number of my clients stemmed from my knowledge of the oil industry.

I have a dedicated client relationship manager in the form of Angee Mason who has many years’ experience having previously worked at HSBC. I also have a dedicated paraplanner, Matt Jackson, who has been providing me with all important research and background reporting for several years
