In this episode of Foster Denovo Talks, we hear from Louise Blair, Director of People and Culture, who offers a powerful and pragmatic view of what it means to build a workplace where people truly thrive.
At a time when expectations around wellbeing, flexibility and leadership are rapidly changing, Louise reflects on how we’re evolving our internal culture, not just to keep pace, but to lead with intention. She shares the thinking behind recent changes, the importance of active listening and why creating a sense of belonging is more vital than ever.
I’ve always believed that culture is everyone’s responsibility, not just HR’s. At Foster Denovo, we’ve worked hard to embed empathy and trust throughout the business, creating a space where people feel free to bring their whole selves to work. Leadership plays a crucial role in that, from modelling vulnerability to encouraging open conversations and continuous feedback. It’s about how we show up to one another every single day.
“Culture isn’t a HR initiative, it’s how we show up for each other every day.”
For me, wellbeing at Foster Denovo isn’t about one-off programmes or ticking boxes. It’s about creating a psychologically safe environment where people can talk openly about their mental health and feel supported all year round. We’ve made a real effort to listen actively, offer flexible working and give our managers the tools they need to lead with empathy.
“Wellbeing isn’t a project, it’s a promise we keep, every day.”
I believe inclusion is just the starting point, belonging goes much deeper. Belonging is when people feel safe, seen and supported; when they know their voice truly matters. At Foster Denovo, belonging means every individual feels part of something bigger, with the confidence to grow and perform at their best.
“Inclusion invites people in. Belonging makes them feel at home.”
